Is there any canon/official Transformers story where young Transformers actually ARE called "Sparklings"? Because I have not found any so far.
Why do people keep insisting on calling them Sparklings?
The canon calls them either Protoforms or Hatchlings, and in the Aligned continuity (Prime/Rescue Bots/Go!/RID 2015) they are called Hatchlings. High Tide (RB) in one episode calls the Rescue Bots "A crew of Hatchlings", meaning the concept is used in that continuity.
Of course "Hatchling" is probably more a reference to infants while "Protoform" is the general term to a young Cybertronian who hasn't acquired a v-mode yet.
As for juveniles WITH v-modes...I'd just call them "kids" or "Transformers" or "youngsters", coz I think that once a Protoform acquires a vehicle mode, they are "grown-up", biologically speaking.
And as for the term "Sparkling", I've always thought of the term as "newborn Sparks". I mean, doesn't that make more sense than calling a young Cybertronian that?
